p.1.1- Above all, we shall not harm children. We shall not participate in practices that are emotionally damaging, physically harmful, disrespectful, degrading, dangerous, exploitative, or intimidating to children. This principle has precedence over all others in this Code.
As a childcare professional I too place this code at the top of my list. There is nothing more important than the safety and well being of a child. As director of The Dare 2B Different Afterschool program I follow this code and plan to continue to following the code of ethics throughout my professional life.
I-26 –To acknowledge families childrearing values and their right to make decisions for their
children.
No matter how much time I spend with a child I am not the parent. It is important that I respect the values and rights the parent has to make decisions for their children. As a childcare professional I will strive to ensure that the families of the children are involved with any decision making.
I-1.3—To recognize and respect the unique qualities, abilities, and potential of each child.
Although created equal, all children are different. As a professional it is important that we recognized these differences. Potential lies in each child I will work hard as a childcare professional to find and develop the potential of each child.
I-1.4—To appreciate the vulnerability of children.
When a child learns to trust a person that is beautiful! When a child cannot protect themselves and depend on the person they trust to take care of them that is security.
As childcare professionals I will strive to respect and protect the vulnerability of children knowing they are not able to yet care for themselves.

ReplyDeleteP.1.1 was one of my favorites. I just don’t understand how someone could harm a child. Children need to feel safe and secure and they need to be able to trust those that are influential in their life. It is important that we hold people responsible for participating or not reporting when a child has been placed in a dangerous situation.
