Ms. Taylor: 3rd Grade Teacher
I remember forgetting to do my homework and Ms. Taylor my 3rd grade teacher called me to the front of the class and told me to hold my hand out. She reached in her desk and pulled out a ruler and wacked me one time across the hand in front of the class. I remember crying not because it hurt so much but because I was so hurt that I had not done my home work and the whole class was looking at me.
After class Ms. Taylor asked me if I would like to go home with her and she would help me with my homework. I asked my mom and she agreed to letting me go. Each day Ms. Taylor and I would leave the school together and she became my favorite teacher. Out of all my teachers she is the only teacher I can really remember. I never received another wack in the hand because I always had my homework. There is not really anyone else who really nurtured me when I was a child. My parents were only children so I never had an aunt, uncle or first cousin to play with. My mother's mother passed when she was 8 years old and her father passed when I was 5 years old so I do not know what it feels like to have grandparents to hold and love you. My mother was only 18 when she had me and she had never received the love of a mother so she did not know how to love me.My father although in the home never accepted me as his child so I never had support or grandparents on his side. It's amazing how I have come this far believing in myself when I had no one to encourage me to ever succeed.
Wow girl! You are a fighter! I am so proud of you that you have come so far with such little support. At first I was appalled because your teacher hit you with the ruler, but I love that she really made a difference because she tried! I had a teacher like that in High School. It was a hard time for me and she encouraged me so much I am not even sure she knows!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing such a personal story!
Take care,

Hi Rosemary, You are so Blessed!!!!! There are so many children that had to deal with the same challenges you facted and they allowed their circumstances to control their faith but you didn’t. I’m glad that you did not allow that wack on the hand to prevent you from wanted to receive what Ms. Taylor had to offer. Sometime we need an attention maker to redirect our path. We have the power now to make a difference in the lives of children in our classroom.
ReplyDeleteGod definitely had His arms around you for you to have gotten this far without the support of family. I wonder if your desire to be a teacher stemmed from your relationship with Ms. Taylor? She seems like an amazing woman to have taken so much time with you. From what I have learned about you, I believe she would be proud of the woman you have become!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your story of hope!
God bless you :)
Hi Rosemary, I have to say after reading your Personal Childhood Web, you truly had to encourage yourself growing up. I’m so happy you had Ms. Taylor and I’m sure she stimulated your love of education. Thank you so much for sharing!!!
